Martina Navratilova’s one-word response to Megan Rapinoe is perfect

Women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe was asked in a recent Time magazine interview about transgender athletes in women’s sports. Her response was super-woke and entirely predictable. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova definitely did not agree with Rapinoe’s answer to that question and she delivered a perfect one-word response.

Rapinoe is a political activist, especially in the area of LGBTQ activism. Rapinoe is gay and she is also a favorite guest at the White House for all things about the LGBTQ agenda in politics. Rapinoe spoke up in favor of trans athletes in women’s sports. A stunned Navratilova joined in on the social media comments.

Rapinoe said lawmakers were “trying to legislate away people’s full humanity” and said she would accept a transgender woman replacing a biological female on the U.S. national team.

As the comments circulated across the internet, Navratilova chimed in with one word.

“Yikes…” she wrote.

I’m with Martina. Also, I call bs on Rapinoe’s answer. Not for one minute do I believe that Rapinoe would be perfectly chill with a man playing on her soccer team, or on a competing team. She has argued for years in favor of women in sports. She’s been active in trying to narrow what she sees as pay inequality between women’s soccer and men’s soccer. Martina has also been active in speaking up for the LGBTQ community but she is not a fan of the transgender agenda. She follows the science.

In March, she applauded World Athletics for adopting a policy to exclude transgender female athletes from women’s competitions. She called it a “step in the right direction.”

“In the wake of World Athletics’ announcement, I think the best idea would be to have ‘biological female’ and ‘biological girls’ categories and then an ‘open’ category,” she wrote in an op-ed in The Times of UK.

I don’t quite agree with that plan, though. Men (and transgender women) cannot compete against women. In a sport like soccer, women risk physical injury playing against men. Most importantly, men take a spot from women on the team. Women no longer have safe spaces, not even a college locker room. Women are subjected to preoperative males in the same locker room. It’s not ok. It’s abusive.

Rapinoe was one of 40 professional athletes to sign a letter to House lawmakers in April opposing the Protection of Girls and Women in Sports Act. She said it would exclude women and girls from getting mental and physical health benefits.

“It’s particularly frustrating when women’s sports is weaponized,” Rapinoe told Time. “Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women’s sports? That’s total bulls—. And show me all the trans people who are nefariously taking advantage of being trans in sports. It’s just not happening.”

She explained why she would accept a transgender female on the U.S. women’s team.

Here’s the thing, Megan. People have cared about women in sports for decades. Title IX was enacted in 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program that receives funding from the federal government. This was literally meant to protect women in sports. It is all about fairness. Title IX is older than Megan, she was born in 1985.

Why in the world would Megan Rapinoe accept a trans athlete in women’s soccer? Is it because this is her last year? She’s retiring. It’s pretty easy to accept just about anything if you’ve got one foot out of the door. It goes back to my usual question – where are all the feminists? Where are the women who fought for Title IX, back in the day? None of this should be ok with them. Allowing men in women’s sports and normalizing the behavior as though it is perfectly normal is wrong. Our culture is so far gone that just acknowledging basic right and wrong is “weaponizing” women’s sports. What a load of malarkey.

Good for Marina Navratilova. Where are all the other retired women athletes? None of this madness stops until women demand it. Women have a right to their own sports teams. Let the men start transgender competitions, if they want to play sports but not as men. Leave women’s sports alone.
