What would you call a person who refused to honor the victims of 9/11 and now opposes honoring the victims of Hamas’ brutal attack in Israel?
The answer? A Fairfax County school board member.

Glenn Youngkin is governor of Virginia today because northern Virginia school boards have veered so far left that they engage in conspiracies to hide trans-“women” raping girls in their bathrooms, and terrorist sympathizers oppose condemning terrorists.
Fairfax and Loudoun Counties both abut the District of Columbia and are filled with government workers and contractors who form the core of the Democrat coalition, which means they both lean quite liberal. This, in turn, means that the far Left has been taking over, not so much because the median voter is radical, but because Democrat voters are willing to vote for the radicals.
Many of the people who live in those counties can still recall seeing the smoke rising above the Pentagon, yet somehow a terrorist sympathizer can be elected to the school board despite this fact. This is for the same reason that transgender-identifying candidates are shoe-ins to get elected in Democrat areas: intersectional loyalty trumps reason.
The Daily Wire gives us some background on Obrar Omeish, and it’s not pretty.
Fairfax County School Board member Abrar Omeish — who in September 2021 opposed a resolution honoring the victims of the 9/11 attacks — opposed a moment of silence for victims of the Hamas attacks.
Omeish’s father, Esam Omeish, has served as director of the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, which hired as its imam Anwar al-Awlaki, whom President Barack Obama later ordered killed by a drone strike. The mosque was attended by two of the 9/11 hijackers as well as the shooter in the 2009 attack on Fort Hood, Texas.

In June 2021, Omeish gave a graduation speech in which she told a mainly immigrant class of high schoolers that they were entering a world filled with “white supremacy” and encouraged them to remember their “jihad” and reject the concepts of objectivity and neutrality. A photograph shows her as the only person without her hand over her heart during the pledge of allegiance at another graduation ceremony.
Conservatives have been fighting this ideology for a while and warning people about its dangers. In this we have made some progress, but hardly enough.
But the past 10 days have been clarifying to a lot of liberals, who excused the rhetoric and assumed that it was simply smoke-blowing. They never imagined that these people actually meant what they kept saying.
Well, guess what? They did.
We will have to see if there is a seismic shift in liberal opinion about its radical wing and its political usefulness. I am not holding my breath. Americans as a whole have firmly rejected the radicals, so any Democrat distancing from them may just be political maneuvering.
Or, perhaps not. It is possible that some or most of them may wake up. Lots of liberal Jews certainly have.
